A third major battery-related investment in twelve months has cemented Hungary's position as a European centre for cell and cathode production.

The project near Debrecen was backed by cash grants from HIPA and benefits from the country's 9% flat corporate tax, the lowest in the EU.

Local officials emphasised the role of existing supplier ecosystems and rail logistics to Western European OEMs in winning the project.

Critics point to grid capacity and water use as constraints the government is now addressing through accelerated transmission investment.
